Quick Start
When Supervisor 9 is executed for the first time, all that is displayed is a empty Summary dialog. To start using the program, following these steps:
Click on the Add Serial Port or Add Ethernet Port tab to activate the appropriate CommPort dialog.
NOTE: Starting with version 9.2.49, Svr9 now includes an additional Supervisor 9 Setup dialog (shown below) which is displayed when the Add Serial Port or Add Ethernet Port button are selected. This dialog was added to reduce confusion for users who are unfamiliar with Svr9, and to assist them in configuring certain CommPort parameters. Upon clicking the Proceed button, the normal CommPort dialog will be opened with these parameters configured appropriately. Clicking the Cancel button will close this dialog and return the user to the Summary dialog. As noted at the bottom of this dialog, the more-experienced user can bypass this configuration dialog by selecting Expert mode in the Options dialog.

Once the CommPort dialog is opened, set the appropriate configuration options for your target port (Comm Port and Baudrate for serial port; there are no configurations required for Ethernet), then click the Connect or Add Device(s) button.
When Connect is clicked, the program will execute an auto-detection algorithm to locate any ODUs which are connected to the selected port. For each device which is located, a tab will be created in the Monitor tab control (the Monitor dialog will be created when the first device is discovered). When Svr9 is finished detecting devices on the communications port, summaries of each device will be entered in the Summary dialog.
If the program fails to find any devices which are connected to the port, there are other techniques which can be used to locate devices on the port. For a detailed discussion of these options, read the topic Discovering ODU devices in this help file.
Also, for further information on using the Comm Port and Monitor dialogs, see the CommPort tabs and Monitor tabs topics, respectively, in this help file.
